Rose Festival Offers Public Rare Opportunity to Attend Princess Announcement

Kicking off the final week of Princess announcements, a special free-to-the-public ceremony will be held at the Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland Monday, March 15 at 3:30 p.m. to introduce the Metro selection to the Rose Festival Court. Three juniors and two seniors (from Glencoe, Aloha, Sherwood, Tigard and Sunset High Schools) will appear on stage to hear which among them will be chosen to represent their school as a Rose Festival Princess.
Led by Master-of-Ceremonies and Board President, Robert Hansen, this rare public ceremony will feature a performance by the Gladstone High School Jazz Choir and a short welcoming speech by current Rose Festival Queen Rachel Seeman. 2009 Metro Princess Brianna Burnett, (a Tigard High School graduate), will be on hand to present the crown to the new Princess.

MusicFest's 'Battle Of The Bands' Seeks School-Age Musicians

The Portland Rose Festival is accepting applications from middle and high school-age musicians for its MusicFest competition. Application packets must be received by Thursday, April 1, 2010. After initial review, selected finalists will perform before a live audience and a panel of music industry judges at MusicFest 2010 (Saturday April 24) at the Portland Music Company (531 SE Martin Luther King Boulevard), starting at 5:00 p.m.

MusicFest has been a popular showcase for young musicians and their bands for over 20 years. Bands playing all music genres are encouraged to enter, including rock, alternative, blues, jazz, reggae and world beat. MusicFest provides a professional environment where young musicians may gain experience and confidence performing in front of live audiences and judges. This is an opportunity for young artists to receive constructive feedback from music industry professionals and experienced local musicians.
