Join in viewing this delightful annual event held at the Riverplace Marina at the Flag Circle
(At the south end of the Tom McCall Waterfront Park bowl in downtown Portland.)
This ancient Chinese Eye Dotting ceremony, “The Awakening of The Dragons,” features local and visiting dignitaries painting red dots on the eyes of the ceremonial dragon boat figure heads to officially “wake” them up and kick-off the Rose Festival Dragon Boat Race season.
This event will take place April 1, 2017 at 12:00 noon (at Tom McCall Waterfront Park – South End).
This year the Grand Ronde Tribe will welcome the ancient dragons of Kaohsiung, Taiwan to their homeland.
Buddhists from the Hui Lin Temple lead this centuries old Chinese ceremony. Activities include firecrackers, drumming and Lion Dancing by the C.C.B.A. and ending with a parade of dragon boats and the Portland Fireboat spraying the traditional water cannon salute.
