Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade

A Twinkling, Summer Night Downtown

One of our most popular events, the Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade offers funky, eclectic fun for everyone. From traditional marching bands and flood-lit floats, to glow-in-the-dark umbrellas and unique hand-built entries, you’ll see the best of Portland’s diverse community groups (and surrounding Northwest region) together in one whimsical pageant. 2020 makes for an exciting Starlight Parade as it celebrates more than 40 years in the city of Portland!

The Starlight Parade continues a longtime festival tradition from the early 1900s, when illuminated floats built on electric trolley cars made their way through the city on trolley tracks. Today, participants light up the night with approximately 100 illuminated entries along a 2.25-mile route. The parade draws more than 325,000 spectators to downtown Portland and starts at 8:30 p.m. (It is also broadcast live from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. on FOX 12.) Don’t miss the fun of one of the Rose Festival’s best and brightest traditions!

The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade will begin at 8:30 p.m. on May 30, 2020.

2019 Starlight Parade Sections

Look for four distinct sections in this year’s parade.

Sprit of the West presented by Spirit Mountain Casino ~ kicks off the parade, featuring the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Royalty, the Grand Marshal and Tony’s Chocolonely Chocotruck, among other regional entries.

Stars in Lights Section ~ features an entry from parade sponsor PGE, the popular Alaska Airlines PDX Drillers, plus floats from visiting festivals.

Portlandia Section presented by CareOregon ~ sharing everything that helps keep Portland weird. Watch for the Meals on Wheels People Float and the Precision Ladle Drill Team, marching bands and the legendary Unipiper and the cast of characters from Weird Portland United.

Let’s Light it Up presented by Oregon 811 ~ closes out the parade with the lightest and brightest section. Look for floats and entries with an international flair, from Portland Taiko, Nordic Northwest, Oregon Falun Dafa Association, and more!
