Volunteer Opportunities

VolunteerMatch.Org

There are several volunteer opportunities open to mostly youth 14 years of age or older (some require 16 years of age).

To apply, go to the website, create an account and send messages to the different organizations, using your account.

Short term and long term volunteer service opportunities are available.

HandsOnPortland.Org

This includes volunteer projects for those 14-17 years old with completion of a "youth registration form" (filled out by a parent or guardian). Volunteers 18 and older may sign up for any project on their own.

To apply, go online to their website and click the volunteer link (located on the side). Then click "getting started" and "register on our site." After completing registration you may choose from many different projects.

ServeNet.Org

This includes volunteer opportunities for youth 14 years of age or older, but most opportunities require 16 (or even 18) years of age or older.

Enter your zip code at the webpage above. Click the "get involved" tab at the top of the page and then click "find opportunity" to find the different volunteer opportunities.

OMSI.edu

Students 14 years of age and older are eligible for most positions, excluding greeter positions (where students must be at least 16).

Applications are available online.

Students receive the following benefits by volunteering at OMSI:

  • Complimentary admissions to the museum and attractions.
  • OMSI family memberships for those with 50 hours or more.
  • Discounts in the science store and in the café.
  • Discounts on OMSI camps and classes.
  • Individual recognition for valuable service.

Habitat for Humanity

Volunteers ages 14-18 must have a mentor (at least 21 years of age) accompany them. Volunteers help support construction companies who build homes for those who really need them.

To apply you must register online at the website above, complete an application and orientation.

Audubon Society of Portland

Students must be 15 years of age or older to volunteer and can enjoy observing all the different types of wildlife and seeing how wildlife experts conserve them effectively.

Applications are available online.

Oregon Humane Society

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and must be able to help the animals a minimum of 12 hours per month.

To apply, you must attend an orientation which is held the last Sunday morning of every month. You also must fill out a "volunteer profile and waiver" form and a "youth transportation contract" if you're under the age of 18.
