Lights! Cameras! Honk!! The Rose Festival Clown School is Back!
The Rose Festival’s award-winning Character Clown Corps has opened enrollment for the 2009 season. Non-professionals with a little silly in their swagger are being sought. Participants will train and perform with a European-style clown professional, receive a makeup kit and costume as well as develop their very own clown character. Graduates will get to participate in many festival events including the KeyBank Grand Floral Parade.
Character Clown Corps workshop dates are April 24-26 at the World Trade Center Portland. Participants who complete the three-day workshop will become members of an artistic Rose Festival clown troupe. “I haven’t had this much fun playing with make-up since I got into mom’s vanity,” said 50-year old office worker and 2008 CCC graduate, Jodi Carlton (AKA Rosie the Cleaning Lady). “This experience really pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it allowed me to get in touch with my inner-clown and just play.”
Named one of the Best Educational Programs in the World for festivals and events by the IFEA, the Clown Corps was one of the favorite new Rose Festival features in 2008, led by world-renowned physical comedian and professional clown Angel Ocasio.
Twenty participants ages 14 and up will be selected through an audition process, which consist of a short comedy bit (juggling, magic, joke, song, etc.) and an interview. Aspiring clowns can sign up for the Character Clown Corps by downloading an application here at the website. Applications are due Friday, March 6, 2009.
