The Best New Event in the World is Back

The best new event in the world for 2010 is back! The Youth Silent Film Festival, recipient of a gold award from the International Festivals & Events Association, is both a showcase and an educational opportunity for young filmmakers and would-be filmmakers. The top 45 three-minute films submitted will be screened at the historic Hollywood Theatre during the three-night festival, May 24, 25 and 26.

“We’re so proud to have this fantastic festival on our schedule of events,” said Rose Festival Chief Operating Officer Marilyn Clint. “Philanthropist and film aficionado JP Palanuk has created something really special, and the results have been recognized worldwide.”

The competition has a powerhouse jury pool, including returning judges ‘Transformers’ producer Tom Desanto and iconic media master Kerry O’Quinn, along with famed author Chuck Palahniuk and Academy Award-nominated director Gus Van Sant.

What constitutes ‘youth’? Participants must be 20 years of age or younger on April 15, 2011. April 15 is also the deadline for entry. There is no entry fee required to participate, and winners receive cash prizes — as well as the opportunity to be showcased during the Rose Festival’s screening of “From One Rose” on Saturday, June 11 and on KGW NewsChannel 8′s Live at 7 program on June 8.
