2014 Rose City Sing-Off Highlights Young Talent in Vocal Competition
Choirs from Eugene to Portland will compete in one-day musical event at Imago Dei Community Church (located at 1302 SE Ankeny ST in Portland, Oregon) this Saturday, May 3. The premier a cappella competition in the Northwest, the Rose City Sing-Off provides high school students a chance to compete for cash prizes and get professional advice from a panel of judges experienced in the music industry as performers and educators.
Times for this event are: 9:00 a.m. – Workshops, 1:00 p.m. – First Round, 3:15 p.m. – Semi-Finals and 7:00 p.m. – Finals. Tickets for this event are $10 each (available online at RoseFestival.Org, or for purchase at the door).
Cash prizes are awarded to the top three singing groups to support their school’s music programs: Champion ($750), first runner-up ($500) and second runner-up ($250). (Songs, choreography and dress are family appropriate, with songs that have a positive message.) Judges include David Anderson, Jeremy Davidson and Aaron Elliott.
The Portland Rose Festival continues to seek new ways to support creative education. Nine qualifying groups will compete in the first rounds, and the top three groups will advance to perform again at 7:00 p.m. in the final round of competition. The top three winning teams will also be featured in the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade telecast on Saturday, June 7 on FOX 12 at 10:00 a.m.
Performers include: Avance (Southridge High School), Barlow Sound (Sam Barlow High School), Falcon Phenomenon (Liberty High School), Mixolydians (Sherwood High School), Nothing But Treble (Westview High School), Outburst Acappella (Eugene Area High Schools), Pony Pipers (Milwaukie High School), Rebelation! (South Albany High School) and Soul’d Out (Wilsonville High School).
