The Grand Floral Parade Welcomes a Canine Grand Marshal for 2018
Honoring the Oregon Humane Society’s 150th, the parade honors a Canine Grand Marshal and Canine Court
In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Oregon Humane Society, the Portland Rose Festival announces that the winner of the Canine Coronation and Canine Grand Marshal Contest, Diesel (a 185 pound, two-and-a-half year old English Mastiff) is Grand Marshal of the 2018 Spirit Mountain Grand Floral Parade (Saturday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m., starting at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum).
Twenty dogs were selected out of more than 140 entries to participate in the Canine Grand Marshal Contest (held Thursday evening May 23, 2018, at the Heathman Hotel). The contest — presented by OHS, LexiDog, the Portland Rose Festival and the Heathman Hotel — had finalists parade on a runway in front of a panel of celebrity judges (made up of local media personalities and celebrities). With a rowdy, cheering crowd, every entry was praised as the judges narrowed the selections down to five. Finally Diesel was selected as the favorite to ride in this year’s signature Rose Festival event!
