Make a pledge to be positive in your community!

KeyBank and the Portland Rose Festival Foundation were pleased to receive more than 130 grant applications in this year's Pledge to be Positive program.

2010 Grant Recipients

Room to Grow - ARC of Clark County, City of Sweet Home and Sunshine Industries, Fences for Fido and Lisa Ganoung

Room to Grow - ARC of Clark County: The ARC of Clark County will utilize volunteer labor to build specially designed raised garden beds to allow physically disabled members of the community to create gardens. Gardening alongside other members of the community promotes healthy eating, allows for much-needed physical exercise, provides an opportunity to contribute to the community's food production, and provides an opportunity to make economic contributions through microenterprise.

City of Sweet Home and Sunshine Industries: Sunshine Industries, a local non-profit in the City of Sweet Home, Oregon, provides vocational training for special needs adults. Sunshine Industries' special clients will build 100 cedar planters, plant flowers in them, and place them around the downtown Sweet Home area in an ongoing city beautification project.

Fences for Fido: Fences for Fido, an all-volunteer organization, will build a fence for Moo, a 1 1/2-year-old puppy in Salem whose owner has Parkinson's Disease. Moo is her constant companion, and spends much of his time indoors as his owner can only walk as far as the front porch and hook him to a chain. By building a fence around his owner's yard, it will allow Moo to run and enjoy the outdoors while taking care of his owner.

Read the thank you note from Janice and her dog Moo.

Lisa Ganoung: Lisa is a disabled woman who is in need of home renovations to make her home more wheelchair friendly. This grant will allow volunteers from Community Vision to retrofit her kitchen with cabinets and a cook top that allow her to prepare meals from her wheelchair, as well as make her living room furniture wheelchair accessible.

KeyBank operates the nation's 12th-largest branch network, with 70 branches in Oregon and Southwest Washington. KeyBank has a long history of giving back to the community, both time and money. Annual gifts of approximately $1 million support charitable organizations, economic development initiatives, sponsorships and cultural activities.

BusinessWeek Magazine named Key the top-ranked bank in its Customer Service Championship edition, based on survey feedback from Key clients around the country. KeyBank employees make customers feel warm and welcome, and those customers rewarded Key with positive feedback regarding that service, a great example of how positive-thinking can make a difference!
