We Love Our Volunteers!

Thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who helped make the 2007 Rose Festival Centennial Celebration a success! We are currently evaluating our volunteer needs and are developing volunteer job opportunities for the 2008 Rose Festival season. The opportunities listed below are confirmed for 2008. Please fill out the volunteer applicaiton form below, and we will contact you again when our 2008 volunteer opportunities are finalized.

WaMu Waterfront Village -- May 29 - June 8, 2008

Greeter -- Welcome visitors, answer basic questions about the Portland Rose Festival and its Waterfront Village, thank visitors for attending as they leave and record comments regarding what was liked most, what can be improved, and how we might improve.

Surveyor -- Record both customer demographic information and customer satisfaction comments on a short written exit survey. Requirements: Adults over 18 years old only.

Portland General Electric/SOLV Starlight Parade -- May 31, 2008

Parade route clean-up -- Walk along parade route after the parade collecting the trash bags provided by SOLV. Requirements: Must be able to walk the entire 2.25 mile route, suitable for all ages. (Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

Fred Meyer Junior Parade -- June 4, 2008

Judging -- Review entries in the formation area for determining parade awards. Requirements: Adults over 18 years old only.

Parade Guide -- Provide directional information in parade formation area, assist in guiding parade participants through formation onto the parade route. Requirements: Adults over 18 years old only.

Regence Grand Floral Walk -- June 7, 2008

Greeter -- Process on-site participant registrations, disperse bib numbers and participant t-shirts and provide general information to participants. Some greeters may be asked to man water stations -- preparing and filling cups of water for participants. Requirements: Adults over 18 years old only.

Usher -- Provide directional information to walk participants -- and in some cases motorists -- to help keep participants moving along the parade route. Also usher participants at the end of the walk to the parade seating area. Requirements: Adults over age 18 preferred. (Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) Those volunteers who are driving must have a valid drivers license and be prepared to drive to a specific course location.

Grand Floral Parade -- June 7, 2008

Float Decorating -- Help apply the all-natural materials covering all surfaces of the Grand Floral Parade floats at the warehouse of our official float builder, Studio Concepts. Volunteers are needed in the week prior to the parade, May 29 - June 6, 2008. Requirements: Adults over 14 years old only, all volunteer decorators must complete a separate Studio Concepts volunteer application at www.studioconcepts.com or call 503.222.0077.

Parade route clean-up -- Walk along parade route prior to and after the parade distributing and collecting the trash bags provided by SOLV. Requirements: must be able to walk the entire 4.2-mile route, suitable for all ages. (Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

Portland Rose Festival Foundation Office - Year-round

Administrative support -- Provide support on a variety of administrative projects including mailings, sorting/stuffing projects, data entry, pin counts, etc. Schedule is flexible (on an as-needed basis) and training is provided. Requirements: Adults over age 18 preferred. (Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

Note: in some cases, specific volunteer job assignments will be given on-site at the event.
