3.1 miles of fun in downtown Portland on June 3, 2023!

Portland’s most popular fun run, the Starlight Run, is the wacky warm-up act for the CareOregon Starlight Parade is starting and finishing on Naito Parkway at Rose Festival CityFair.

The 46th Annual Starlight Run will start at 6:00 p.m. The traditional costume contest will be held at 5:00 p.m. The route will follow the path of the CareOregon Starlight Parade and operate as an out-and-back course in 2023.


2:30PM: Bib Pick-Up Opens

4:30PM: Costume Contests Pre-Judging Begins

5:00PM: Costume Contest – main street

6:00PM: Race Begins

All runners will enjoy free access to CityFair following the race! Other goodies for race registrants TBA.

Costume Contest

A costume contest will be held prior to race time. Start planning your winning costume now! Top prizes TBA for the individual adult category. Dressing to match the Rose Festival theme is encouraged. The 2023 Rose Festival Theme is "Focus on Fun."


Youth Individual
Singles only, individuals six to 15 years old

Youth Group
2 persons or more ages six to 15

Adult Individual
Singles only, individuals 16 and older

Adult Group
2 persons or more ages 16 and older

Costume judging schedule (subject to change):
4:30 PM - Entrants arrive at screening area (west of stage closest to Yamhill St. entrance to CityFair)
5:00 PM - Final judging (top 6 contestants in each category)


  1. You must be a registered participant in the Starlight Run and be wearing your event bib number to enter the costume contest.
  2. To qualify for the final round of competition on stage at 5:00 p.m., you must be present at the pre-judging area at 4:30 p.m.
  3. Age limitations outlined in “Categories” above will be enforced.
  4. Your costume must be tasteful and appropriate for G (“general”) audiences. We reserve the right to disqualify anyone for inappropriate costumes.
  5. Event judges have the right to refuse entry to anyone.
  6. Audience applause will assist in determining the winners, but the judge’s decision is final.
  7. Late arrivals will NOT be allowed in the final round of competition at 5:00 p.m.
