We Value Patriotism

The Rose Festival wants to put the memorial back in Memorial Day, with events and programming that are reminders of what this historic holiday is all about. In 2009, the festival's inaugural Memorial Day Celebration was named the Best New Event in the World by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA).

2011 Grand Marshals
the Shepherds of Helmand

Sergeant First Class Mark Browning, First Sergeant Dave Hagen and Sergeant Major Jerry Glesmann of the "Shepherds of Helmand" have been chosen as the Grand Marshals of the Danner Memorial Day Walk. One of the most decorated units in Oregon National Guard history, the Shepherds of Helmand were deployed in 2008 to Afghanistan to train a battalion of the Afghan National Army in the deadly Helmand Province, a Taliban stronghold.
