FREE World Environment Day RoZone Rally on Wednesday!
Portland has been chosen by the United Nations Environment Programme as the North American host city for World Environment Day. Come and join in the fun at the World Environment Day RoZone Rally on Wednesday, June 5 in the RoZone at CityFair (located in Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park, in Downtown Portland) at 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.
The event will include educational activities for children of all ages — FREE to the public — including story-telling, mask-making, fly casting and fly tying, trash art and the chance to be part of the Procession of the Species: A mini-parade around the waterfront featuring folks dressed as their favorite animals (led by Joy Now performers and stilt-walkers). Plus rides on the Big Wheel will be FREE on World Environment Day!
The Radio Disney AM 1640 Team Green Interactive Zone at the RoZone Rally will feature a variety of hands-on educational activities encouraging local families to take action and conserve the earth’s natural resources including: Toyota Drive Green Station (Explore the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid, engineered for dedicated electric driving, along with educational facts and tips to help families learn how to travel in an environmentally conscious way), Recycle & Reuse Stations (Kids will roll up their sleeves to properly sort recyclable papers, plastics and glass, and get crafty turning old, household items into something new) and Preserve & Conserve Stations (Families will learn effective ways to preserve one of the most precious resources: H2O. At the conserve station, kids can practice their conservation by crafting a newspaper soil pot – with seeds included – to plant at home in their yard).
Featured participants include the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, the Intertwine, Radio Disney’s Team Green, SOLVE, NOAA and the Pacific NW College of Art.
