Green is Golden for Rose Festival Clean Team
The Portland Rose Festival brought home 15 awards including five gold, five silver and five bronze medals from the International Festival & Events Association’s 59th Annual Convention & Expo, presented by Haas & Wilkerson Insurance on Monday, September 29 in Kansas City, Missouri. The Portland Rose Festival is once again recognized as the world leader in Clean and Green environmental responsibility. Competing in the large events category (events with a budget over $1.5 million), the Festival was awarded Gold for its volunteer driven clean and green efforts.
The IFEA Annual Convention & Expo is the top networking event in the field, full of valuable information that can be taken home and put to immediate use in individual communities. It’s a place where professionals gather together to share ideas, experiences and opportunities that shape the successes kids inflatable water park of the common industry, and individual events. The annual convention is held in cities around the United States and includes events and festivals from around the world.
Environmental responsibility is a well-known and celebrated tradition in Portland. The Rose Festival’s Clean & Green Team runs like clockwork, with annual support from major service organizations around the city including SOLVE, Republic Services, Heiberg Garbage & Recycling, Junk Away Hauling and Metro Regional Services, who donate their vehicles and space. (As an example, 3.88 tons of debris was collected at the 2014 PGE/SOLVE Starlight Parade and out of all that sorted material, only 2.91% was garbage.) Partnerships with businesses like Portland General Electric have allowed the Rose Festival to succeed at these programs. Due to the volunteer cleanup that immediately follows the parades, the City of Portland saves $40-50,000 annually and traffic interruptions are kept to a minimum.
