Excessive Celebration Focuses on the Grand Floral Parade This Saturday!

The Big Wheel Returns for the Final Weekend of CityFair!

After missing the first two weeks of the 2016 Rose Festival due to parts upgrading, the most popular ride in the Funtastic Traveling Shows CityFair line-up is back! The Big Wheel will make its return to CityFair with a new lighting display spinning next to the Morrison Bridge. Many wheels will be turning this Saturday as Grand Floral Parade once again rolls out of Memorial Coliseum for a 4.2 mile tour of the city. The newest Queen of Rosaria will be crowned in the Queen’s Coronation, and the Grand Floral Walk will move through right in front of the Parade.

CityFair opens its final four day run with new neighbors, as Fleet Week takes over the seawall and much of the river starting Thursday (Coast Guard ships arrive Wednesday) and are open for tours through Sunday. Ships tours are free. Tour times are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but are subject to change and restrictions. Jumpers for sale While the big boats rest, the Dragons will be circling at the Rose Festival Dragon Boat Race just off RiverPlace Marina from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. CityFair hours are 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The RoZone stays hot with concerts Friday through Sunday: Hit Machine is free with admission to Cityfair on Friday. Tickets are still available for Saturday’s 101.9 KINK H2O Show featuring Everclear and on Sunday, 93.1 El Ray presents Dia de la Familia. BUY TICKETS

The Biggest Event Day in Oregon starts bright and early Saturday. The Queen’s Coronation presented by Unitus Community Credit Union lights up the historic Veterans Memorial Coliseum at 8:30 a.m., with fifteen princesses dressed for success. (The new queen will be revealed at approximately 9:15.) At 9:30 a.m. the Bank of the West Grand Floral Walk steps out to warm up the quarter million fans lining the 4.2 mile parade route. Following that, the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade honoring the 2015 MLS Cup winning Portland Timbers as Grand Marshal, rolls out at 10:00 a.m.

The Parade will be broadcast live on KPTV/FOX 12 and rebroadcast at 8:00 p.m. Viewers outside of Portland can catch the Parade on KFBI in Medford, KLSR in Eugene, and KFXO in Bend.
