Foundations Team-Up to Donate Unique Chairs to Special People
Rose Festival and Poznanski Family Foundation offer all-terrain alternatives to wheelchairs
The Poznanski Family Foundation has partnered with the Portland Rose Festival Foundation to present life changing chairs to worthy recipients, which will greatly improve mobility and life opportunities for them and their families. The Foundations have selected three beneficiaries to receive these Trackchairs. Providing the chairs at a discounted price, Action Trackchairs is also waving the delivery fee per chair, and has added a number of accessories to the chairs to enhance their usability.
Portland Police Officer Sergeant Paul Meyer, injured more than three years ago during ATV training with the department, received the first chair at his home Thursday morning, May 17. The second Trackchair was delivered that afternoon in Salem to retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Brian McCallister, who completed 9 tours in Iraq between 1990 and 2007. The third chair is scheduled to go to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, War Fighter Outfitters (in Sisters, Oregon), a group of more than forty volunteers who provide camping, hunting, fishing and boating experiences for disabled veterans.
“This chair will give me the ability to do more with my family,” said Sergeant Paul Meyer.”We already have a trip planned to Central Oregon and my boys are really excited about a family outing to the beach. That has been off-limits to me in a regular wheelchair.”
The Poznanski Family Foundation was established by Bob and Dorothy Poznanski in 1992. They started the foundation to support single mothers and children and have been supporters of the Rose Festival for many years. Bob passed away in 2016, but Dorothy has continued the foundation through her children. “It is such a thrill to be able to do this and help a family in such a life-changing way,” said Dorothy Poznanski. “It makes me feel so happy to see the joy in their faces, and Bob would fully agree and approve using the money to do this.”
The three Trackchair recipients and their families have been invited to attend the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade as guests of the Portland Rose Festival Saturday, June 9.
