Portland Thorns FC Leads 2018 Starlight into Second Festival Weekend

CityFair Refreshed Adds Popular Concerts to Weekend Programming

The Rose Festival’s first parade, the Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade, steps off at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2, led by Grand Marshal the Portland Thorns FC, the 2017 National Women’s Soccer League Championship winners. Always a fan favorite with visiting community floats and marching bands, the parade will feature three of the largest marching bands to ever gather in one Rose Festival parade. Internet fans can even catch a glimpse of DJ Ravioli and iammoshow AKA the Cat Rapper in person.

This year’s parade is full of playful entries packed into four fantastic sections. It kicks off with Spirit of the West presented by Spirit Mountain Casino, reviving a tradition featured in the first Rose Festival, where floats representing communities throughout the West paraded through the city.

Play Together is showcasing diverse community spirit in the Rose City and beyond.

As the night gets darker, the lights get brighter! Stick around for some funky, eclectic fun in the next section Portlandia presented by CareOregon. The final section of the parade brings outstanding illumination in Play Illuminated.

The One More Time Around Again Marching Band will lead from their traditional front place but look out for the Mega Bands from Washington State following. Various high school musicians from the Evergreen and Vancouver school districts will fill the streets with members stretching for blocks, with one group featuring more than 800 marchers.

Be active at the Starlight Parade this year and join the Starlight Scavenger Hunt. Download the Goosechase APP to your device, type in Rose Festival and play for prizes from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Need some chalk, find a Cop! Portland police are encouraging artists of all ages to express their creative side through street art, by handing out colored chalk, donated by parade vendor Mighty Hawk Concessions, to fans all along the parade route.

CityFair Shines its own light on talented musicians with a full weekend of concerts in the RoZone.

Both Friday and Saturday shows are free with admission to CityFair.
