On May 28 at 2:30 p.m., Claire Coffee (who plays Hexenbiest Adalind Schade on the NBC hit program “Grimm”) will be joined by Hannah R. Loyd (who plays her daughter ‘Diana’) and read out loud from “A Visitor for Bear.” The Kids Zone Reading Corner is part of the Rose Festival’s commitment to the 2016 Official Charity SMART (Start Making A Reader Today). The Rose Festival will honor SMART with a special Kids Zone Reading Corner at CityFair, kicking off on May 27 at 5:00 p.m. for Memorial Day weekend and three consecutive weekends at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park (May 27-May 30, June 2-5 and June 9-12, 2016). Keeping the running tradition alive, the Portland Rose Festival is introducing the world’s SHORTEST Half Marathon: the Point One Run! Forget about those other 13 miles. We’re focusing on the most important part, the final one tenth of a mile to the finish line! This event takes place on Sunday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m., with an official course that starts AND stays inside CityFair, racing from the Morrison Bridge south to the RoZone. Register for the run at this website.

Surrounded by the serene ambience of the festival’s CityFair food court, the Point One Run invites runners to ‘race’ 528 feet in less than 45 minutes, while negotiating unique beverage stations, groups of clowns and cheering family and friends. Runners who successfully complete the course on time will burst through the finish line at the RoZone to the sound of live rock and roll music with the Rolling Tones and Candy O from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Come down Monday, Memorial Day, May 30 and see the Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra “Symphony Safari.” Get up close and personal with violins, cellos and more! The orchestra will perform “Americana” themed music in honor of Memorial Day, and will be set up in a way that allows guests to take a safari and walk among the musicians — a truly unique experience. The concert takes place 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and is FREE with CityFair Admission.
